Calbee, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Makoto Ehara) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its flagship product, Calbee Potato Chips, with nationwide events, special-edition packaging, and the launch of a new “Thank You Scallop Salt” flavor inspired by fan feedback.
To kick off the celebrations, Calbee has unveiled a large-scale event at Tokyo Station’s Yaesu Concourse featuring a giant potato chip-themed photo booth showcasing all 50 varieties of its popular snack. From September 1–3, Tokyo Station visitors can also participate in “National Gratitude Sampling,” where Calbee representatives will personally hand out special sample packs. Similar events will roll out in Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Hiroshima, and other cities through fiscal 2025.
Calbee Potato Chips debuted in 1975 as part of the company’s mission to maximize the value of unused Hokkaido-grown potatoes. Over the past five decades, Calbee has introduced packaging innovations, extended product shelf life, and created thousands of flavor varieties to meet evolving consumer tastes. Today, Calbee produces more than 920 million bags of potato chips annually.
“At its heart, our brand’s success is thanks to decades of teamwork and the customers who’ve made Calbee a household name,” said Ehara. “We’re proud of our history and more committed than ever to building a brand that thrives for another 50 years.”
The company also announced initiatives to strengthen connections with customers, local farmers, and the distribution industry, including fan engagement programs, regional product development, and logistics innovation.
