Calbee, Inc. is proud to announce a new retail initiative at its “Kuradashi Yakiimo Kaitsuka” Tsukuba store. Beginning Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the store will launch a refrigerated locker-type vending machine, providing customers access to its signature chilled baked sweet potatoes outside of traditional operating hours.
The decision to install the automated vending unit follows significant customer feedback from local commuters and residents who expressed a desire to purchase premium sweet potatoes after work or as late-night snacks.
By leveraging this contactless, 24-hour sales model, Calbee aims to:
- Capture Latent Demand: Serve the “night market” of consumers active after 7:00 PM.
- Enhance Convenience: Provide a seamless, automated purchase experience without daytime queues.
- Improve Operational Efficiency: Test a scalable sales model that reduces labor costs and minimizes food waste.
Product Spotlight: Beni Tenshi (Irregular S-Size)
The vending machine will feature the brand’s top-selling product, Beni Tenshi, known for its exceptional sweetness and creamy texture. The “Irregular S-Size” boxes offer the same premium quality as standard stock but in varied shapes, providing excellent value to the consumer.
